And this is the confidence that we have before him: that whenever we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.

Jew

Father, remind me that you have not rejected your people whom you foreknew! Let me be reminded of what the scripture says about Elijah, how he plead with you against Israel “Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars; I alone am left and they are seeking my life!” But your divine response to him was, “I have kept for myself seven thousand people who have not bent the knee to Baal.” So in the same way at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if it is by grace, it is no longer by works, otherwise grace would no longer be grace. Israel failed to obtain what it was diligently seeking, but the elect obtained it. The rest were hardened. But praise be to you, O God that they did not stumble into an irrevocable fall!, Absolutely not! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make Israel jealous. Though their transgression means riches for the world and their defeat means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full restoration bring! Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of my Lord! How unsearchable are your judgments and how fathomless your ways! For from you and through you and to you are all things. To you be glory forever! Amen.
