Father, it was you who laid the foundation of the earth and who set its measurements. It was you who set its bases and laid its cornerstone. It was you who shut up the sea with doors when it burst forth, coming out of the womb, when you made the storm clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band, when you prescribed its limits, and set in place its bolts and doors, when you said, ‘"To here you may come and no farther, here your proud waves will be confined." It is you who commands the morning and makes the dawn know its place, that it might seize the corners of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it. It is you that goes to the springs that fill the sea, and walked about in the recesses of the deep. The gates of death have been revealed to you. You have seen the gates of deepest darkness and considered the vast expanses of the earth. In my ignorance, I claim to know it all! The only thing I truly know is that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted; But I have declared without understanding things too wonderful for me to know. Your glorious name deserves praise forevermore! May your majestic splendor fill the whole universe! Amen! Amen!
